Sitting here at Sullivan Arena before the Alaska Aces-Las Vegas Wranglers exhibition game tonight, couldn't help but notice the other preseason game in the ECHL tonight had the fingerprints of Alaska connections all over it.

South Carolina defenseman Ryan Turek, the former Ace, scored with just seven seconds remaining in overtime to give the Stingrays a 3-2 win over visiting Greenville. The Stingrays tied the game in the third period on a goal from Hunter Bishop of Fairbanks, who was assisted by former UAA defenseman Luka Vidmar. The Stingrays also included former UAF captain Kevin Petovello, who led his club with four shots on goal.

On the Greenville side, former Aces goaltender Adam Courchaine stopped 12 of 14 shots in 35:51. Also playing fro Greenville was former UAA defenseman Lee Baldwin, who was +1 with two shots.

The connections even extended to the benches. South Carolina coach Spencer Carbery is a former UAA forward who as a player in 2009 helped the Stingrays beat the Aces in Game 7 of the Kelly Cup Finals. And the assistant coach from Greenville is none other than former UAF blueliner Dwayne Zinger.
