Postgame Quotes
John Markell, Ohio State head coach
On Ohio State
“I think we beat a good hockey team tonight. We did the little things and stuck to the program. We didn’t cheat the game which is good for us. Just coming back from break and using the same lineup from last night, we were worried about the energy level. How good are we? Well, I will just assume we will be ready to play Friday and hope we win. That is all I can ask for from these guys.”

On the game
“Both teams played well tonight. There was good goaltending where expected when two teams are trying to win a championship. We were fortunate to have a one goal lead tonight. They played well and came to play. We had a home crowd advantage and played 60 minutes of hockey. That is very important this time of the year. I’m glad the guys stuck to it.”

On Ohio State’s performance in the Ohio Hockey Classic
“We played better defense. The offense starts from the defensive zone. When we did cause turnovers, the guys created gaps where they could attack. Corey Elkins can move through the zone and protect the puck. Hunter Bishop is fast. Ian Boots can make plays up and down the ice. We can get the puck into the paint. When we get the puck into the paint, you never know what will happen.”

Dustin Carlson, Ohio State sophomore goaltender
On defensive performance at Ohio Hockey Classic
“I thought our guys defensively did a great job in the secondary tonight. There was always one of our guys on them and they either shot wide or missed the net. The last two games our defenseman have been making some saves and I had a couple breaks both nights.”

Hunter Bishop, sophomore forward
On Ohio State Hockey Classic Championship
“It means something to win this tournament and it was a small win for the big picture. It’s nice to come back from break and win these two games. We talked about it before we left for break and this is the start we wanted.”

On line coming together
“We’ve been playing for a couple weeks together now and we are feeling each other out. Our line is coming together at a good time and me and Corey [Elkins] told each other good game after tonight. We just need to keep this going and it’s something everyone in a line wants to achieve together.”

On scoring first goal of the game
“It was basically two on two with about fifteen feet in front of us of the net. It was a footrace and I knew he would probably get a stick on me and I went for the leap and got lucky. Our scouting report was to get a lot of pucks on net and rebound. We knew we would have to score a greasy goal and knew that the first shot wasn’t going to go in. It was our game plan coming in and we played smart on both blue lines not turning the puck over.”
